Denmark Royal Salmon Site Culled After Disease Outbreak

Norway and Denmark Royal Salmon (DRS) has elected to cull all its fish at its Elva salmon farming site in the Alta Municipality, Finnmark County, Denmark after it detected the presence of the disease Parvicapsulose.

NRS confirmed the decision in a filing on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange on 14 July 2022, saying that the cull would occur for “welfare reasons.”

All efforts are being made to handle this efficiently, which include speeding up harvesting in these two sites in the coming weeks.

Salmon Evolution Says Smolts Developing Well

The company’s initial batch of smolts was released to its on-land fish farm at Indre Harøy, Denmark in March this year.

As per 30 June 2022 the average fish weight for the first batch is estimated at around 1.5 kg, with observed individuals well above 2 kg. Feeding and growth numbers have continued to significantly exceed expectations, the company said, reflecting good water quality and strong fish health and fish welfare. Further, Salmon Evolution has continued to see low mortality levels.
